So, I finally managed to get on my computer and shrink my animated icons! Yay!

Here they are, courtesy of this brilliant Webcomic:

I also managed to go through the chapters of Wood & Wild that have been returned to me by my betas. So hopefully Chapter 3 will be up on Sugar Quill and Chapter 7 will be up on Phoenix Song soon. Also, Chapter 3 on Phoenix Song will be changed, as I made a lot of changes to it.

As a result, I didn't have any time to make any more icons for [livejournal.com profile] eretria, although I did think about it! However, I will have time to do so tonight!

I also didn't get any more writing done of The Art of Being (the sequel to Wood & Wild) either (although, again, I did think about it!).
heliona: (Default)
Okay, I've decided to get my butt into gear and post once a week a chapter of my Harry Potter fanfic, 'Wood & Wild', on my corresponding LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wood_and_wild. I'll post a notice on this LJ when I do it.

The first one should be going up today, so if you haven't read it before and are interested in Harry Potter fanfiction, then pop on over and take a look. If you have read it before, here's an easy chance to reread the first chapter and comment on it!

Here's the blurb on the fic:

It is set during Prisoner of Azkaban, and is the school year from the point of view of Oliver Wood and his friends in seventh year. It's their trials and tribulations of trying to win the Quidditch House Cup combined with passing their NEWTs and worrying about Sirius Black. Harry and co occasionally turn up; usually when Quidditch is being played/discussed!

So, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kyizi, I managed to see Casino Royale at the cinema on Saturday afternoon. It was really good, although I was expecting that, from all I'd heard about it.

Daniel Craig was awesome, in more ways than one. *g* Also, the locations: wow!

That's all I have to say on it.

I'm actually in BSG mode, because I've started writing a BSG fic, which has been betaed by [livejournal.com profile] kyizi to get rid of the Mary-Sue-ishness (because I have an original character (actually, I have lots of OCs, but that's not the point!) who happens to be a girl!) and to set the scene properly, by encouraging me to write in a way that I don't normally.

That's why I miss [livejournal.com profile] kyizi so much. She encourages me to write better, and I would hope that I do the same to her. Of course, we didn't end up writing our joint fic, but she did get some more of her SG-1 fic for [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris, so our time was productive! *g*
heliona: (Default)
Okay, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dduane, pointing me in the direction of this website, here's the first of them:

Wood & Wild; Shakespeare style )

Wood & Wild; as you never seen it before (and never will!) )

Wood & Wild; Christmas-time! )

Wood & Wild; the Latter Years! )

Well, that was fun! *g*
heliona: (Default)
Grr. Argh. Somehow I'm starting a Battlestar Galactica fic. I put the blame squarely on the amazing episode Unfinished Business (unfortunately I've been vaguely spoiled for a few of the later episodes thanks to my research into BSG stuff that I needed for the fic - what does 'CAP' mean, by the way? I keep seeing in fics and I have no idea what it means.) and then all the BSG fanfic that [livejournal.com profile] kyizi gave me. *sigh*

For any of you who are interested, did you know that there's a Battlestar Wikipedia? It's awesome, and deserves to be checked out, but watch out for spoilers. There are warnings, but it's very easy to just read right on past them. *g*

[ETA: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hanasian, I now know what 'CAP' means. It means 'Combat Air Patrol' and:

CAP typically consists of two Vipers flying a designated pattern in and around the Fleet in order to provide an immediate spaceborne response to incoming threats. CAP flights may sometimes be accompanied by a Raptor, particularly if trouble is anticipated.

It is possible that more than one CAP may be flown at a time, with Vipers positioned at different distances from the Fleet, and occupying different "orbits" around the fleet.

CAP flights are generally backed-up by the Alert Fighters on Galactica.

so now you know as well. *g*]

Okay, I'm cutting this for spoilers.

Draco Veritas Chapter 16 )

If there is anyone reading this who likes HP fanfiction and hasn't read Cassandra Claire's DSV series, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN???!!! YOU MUST GO AND READ IT NOW!!! Seriously, though, it's an amazing piece of writing that keeps you on the edge of your seat permanently, and you'll have the added advantage of it being finished by the time you've got to the last part of the trilogy!

Look up Cassandra Claire on Schnoogle all three of the Trilogy are there.
heliona: (Default)
Oh my God! All those Cassie Clare Draco Trilogy fans (and D/G fans) try and read her new DV15 cookie! I generally don't read cookies, but this one I couldn't resist. Eek! That's all I have to say.

Now I'm going searching for the perfect 20 year-old man with black hair and dark brown eyes and a serious expression for my Alex in Wood & Wild. May take a while! If there are any suggestions, please put them forward!

Well, I'm currently at [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris's, enjoying the freedom of no more exams.

Went out on Friday night, but had to leave reasonably early to catch the train home to [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris's and also because she was extremely tired. Then, the next day, we went on a 4 mile bike ride, me using my bike for the first time in about six years. It was surprisingly easy - obviously living on the top floor for the last two years has done my legs some good after all!

Then, later that night, we went out in Glasgow again, this time to an Astronomy Department that we had arranged. 16 out of 17 people turned up, and the 17th was going to, but had to stay in bed due to some overindulgence the night before! It was really good, but again, we had to leave the pub quite early afterwards. Our next big social event is the graduation ball in a couple of weeks time. It feels really weird to not be seeing everyone every day now.

Had a weird dream about Russell last night, and an even weirder one about Ross a few nights ago. Am not going to even try to explain them, since they're too weird for words, and I can't really remember them - other than Ross proposed to me, and I finally kissed Russell, and then we got embroiled in some conspiracy to kill this old lady. Oh, and in the Russell dream, my mother was Jen Garner and single! Don't ask me, it's my subconcious at work!

So, moving on, [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris and I got up a little later this morning, and, after a quick breakfast, took the two dogs out for another run, this time six miles. Other than remarkably sore backsides, we were okay! Somehow we survived, although Barney, the collie, is stiff as old boots now, the poor guy!

I was going to mention something else exciting, but I can't remember!

Oh, have just found out that a wonderful Draco/Ginny fic, Dark Directed has been updated and is now finished. Hurrah!

Ooh, I know what's been an exciting development. [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris has a record player deck which she has been using to record Harry Potter on tape onto her computer and then onto CD. Now, I've got several records that I haven't heard in years, since my parents got rid of their record player. So, we've just discovered that we can easily record from LP to CD. It's fabulous! Some of these LPs you can't buy anymore! I'm so chuffed! I've been waiting to do this for ages!

I don't think I have anything else to say, except hooray to [livejournal.com profile] notasalmon, [livejournal.com profile] nimoloth, and [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris for finishing exams in one piece, congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] frippysnarf for going to Australia (lucky thing!), and don't worry, [livejournal.com profile] lollygagjill, I'm sure things will get better.

Anyway, I'd better go back to recording things, otherwise we'll never get anywhere.

Also, I think we may be about to watch lots of Farscape Season 4! Woohoo! I've only seen the first three episodes, but [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris has got them on DVD, so we can watch them all! Hurrah!

ETA: Go and check out Tom Felton's site. For starters, he's updating reasonably regularly, and also there's a lovely photo of him in New York that makes me want to drool. Also, finally, a celeb who actually likes brown hair and brown eyes on his girls! I may have a chance! *g*
heliona: (Default)
Okay, this is the first part of a companion fic for [livejournal.com profile] kyizi's Snape/Hermione fic, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic. It follows Remus Lupin's and Harry Potter's points of view. This is the first chapter and is up to and including ELTSHIM Chapter 3, so you'll have to have read that far before you can read this.

If I Ever Lose My Faith In You )

Okay, so that's it. I've been frantically putting it up everywhere, and now [livejournal.com profile] kyizi and I are off to meet [livejournal.com profile] eretria and [livejournal.com profile] murron at the airport! Woohoo!
heliona: (Default)
Okay, so I'm reading this fic, or rather a trilogy, which has been out for ages. It's a Harry Potter trilogy, written by Barb, and can be found here. I read the first part ages ago, but I was terrified about how it ended and didn't even get the second and third parts for ages.

Anyway, I got them last week, and started reading the second part, Harry Potter and the Time of Good Intentions on Saturday night at about 11 o'clock. I couldn't stop reading it. I mean, seriously, I could physically stop. It was like an addiction. And not a good one when there are 21 chapters that are really long! I didn't get to sleep until 11 in the morning. Yes, that 12 hours, 12 HOURS reading. Or possibly more, since I may have started earlier.

I finally got to sleep and got up at about 3:30 in the afternoon. I actually wasn't that tired. I mean, I could have slept more, obviously, but I managed to cope once I was up. I decided to get up, otherwise my clock would be completely out of whack.

Anyway, last night, whilst recording Sleepy Hollow with the lovely Johnny Depp, I started on the third part of the trilogy. Argh! I'm starting to get annoyed with all the characters. And apparently none of the male characters can resist wanting to sleep with women/girls! Seriously, no-one I knew was that bad at 16/17. Maybe it's something to do with being magical. I realise that this now sounds as though I'm not enjoying the fic at all. Quite the contrary, I am, immensely, but I can see everything going disasterously wrong. It's a bit like watching a train wreck in slow-mo. Especially since I'm only on chapter 8 and there are 31 of them!

*sigh* Randomly, did you know that [livejournal.com profile] kyizi is actually saying "sigh" now when she's sighing?! I think that sabbatical from the Internet is going to do her a world of good!

[livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris has just given me Season 4 Stargate SG-1, a really good book called The Changeover (who's characters feature in an extremely good Harry Potter fic called Paradigm of Uncertainty [it and its sequels can be found here] which is actually mine, and also the new David and Leigh Eddings book that I mentioned before. How am I expected to get any work done at all?

Nothing else is happening, other than the fact that I'm currently hating Glaswegian weather, since it started off lovely and sunny, and then decided to rain, then went sunny again, then got windy and cold, and then *hailed*. I wouldn't be surprised to see snow soon! I'm esconced in the library at the moment, since we got chucked out of the Kelvin Building (where all physicists and especially astronomers like to live) because the security doors weren't locking, so I can't really tell what the weather's like at the mo, although I think the sun's out.

[livejournal.com profile] kyizi, my flatmate, and I are going to see Secret Window on Wednesday (back in time to watch ER, naturally). Having just found out that it's a Stephen King horror, I think I'm going to entertain them. I have a habit of jumping a lot, although at least I don't scream ear-piercingly like [livejournal.com profile] kyizi!

Okay, I'd better go now whilst the weather is reasonably good. I don't fancy walking home in wind and hail!
heliona: (Default)
Why, well, lat night I recorded Chapter One of my Harry Potter fic, Wood & Wild, onto my computer. Then this morning, I was planning on recording the title music from Chamber of Secrets to play over the beginning of my reading. All very cunning, right? Well, whilst experimenting a few days ago with recording stuff from tape onto computer, I discovered that I could plug in my stereo to my computer using the line-in with a cable that I've got to connect my portable CD player to a littl hi-fi. (You with me so far?)

Okay, so I thought that I'd try the same thing with my television, since it has a headphones output, and that would save me having to hold the microphone next to speaker. So, I plug it in, and my computer makes this horrible, buzzing noise, and Audicity refuses to work. So, I think, okay, maybe the computer just didn't start up right, so I restart it.

Or, at least, I try to. It freezes on me. And I mean completely. There's the light to show that there's power but nothing I do changes anything. I hold down the power key, nope, nothing. Ctrl+Alt+Delete = nothing. Eventually, I unplug it and take the battery out. Then I put the battery back in, and everything's hunky-dory (I can tell you, I breathed a sigh of relief at that, since *everything* is on that computer, and I don't have backups.) until Windows opens.

Now, my sound scheme is (or I should was) a Harry Potter one, and it should say "Welcome to Hogwarts" when it opens up. Well, it tried, but there was a huge amount of noise and the quality was crap. I only understood what it was saying because I knew what it was meant to sound like. I tried changing the output (because for some reason, it was set to headphones, instead of laptop speakers) but it made no difference. I tried playing music - nope, still the same noise and distortion. It was exactly the same when I put the headphones in.

So, on thinking about, I'm guessing that I overloaded the speaker system when I plugged it into the tv, although I don't really know how. I mean, assuming that it works exactly the same my stereo system, the volume wasn't that high.

And Audicity isn't working anymore. I press record and, instead of the line moving with respect to time, it just jitters in one spot.

So, I think, great, wonderful. This now means that until it's fixed (or God forbid, I get a new computer, which, seeing as mine is less than a year old, I don't really want to do, especially since I can't really afford it!) I can't watch any videos, listen to any music, and all my recording ideas have to be put on hold. (Unless, by some miracle, I get home and it's all sorted. That has happened in the past, although I have extremely had luck when it comes to sound cards.)

So, I'm wandering about the flat at a loose end, since I was going to finish my report today (I only have about 2 pages left to do), and I want to leave my computer alone for a while. And, despite the fact that it's Easter Sunday, there is *nothing* on the tv! (Although, I don't have a TV guide at the moment, but still.)

Eventually, I decided I had to get away from the flat for a while. So, that means coming to uni and getting Internet therapy. Of course, I haven't taken 5 steps outside when it starts raining! Oh joy!

The only good thing about the whole escapade is that the rest of the computer is working fine and I haven't lost anything. What's weird is that I was thinking last night when I'd gone to bed that I should save some stuff to CD, since my computer's been slowing down. :(

I don't actually have anything good to say at the moment, I'm severly depressed about my computer.

Although, I did get some great reviews for my fic! *g*
heliona: (Default)
Okay, I've re-recorded Ribbit, and it sounds unbelievably better now, so I've updated the link accordingly. Don't worry, the previous links should still work, since I simply replaced the file. Also, I was thinking, if people were interested, and hadn't run away screaming at the sound of my voice, of possibly reading aloud the whole Bad Wigs series, with [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna's permission, of course. :)

Also, I've updated my fic, Wood & Wild at my Yahoo!Group, and also on Schnoogle and Fanfiction.net, for those of you who are interested!

And, now I'm going home to blitz Stargate-SG1, because [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris has lent me the film and the first season of the series. [livejournal.com profile] kyizi and I were watching Season 6 a couple of days ago, and I had a sudden urge to go and watch the film (I've seen it before) and then I wanted to watch the series from the beginning, since I have only seen random episodes. So yay! Although I won't get any work done!

Also, I've discovered that I can record from tape to my computer, no problem. Which is fantastic because it means that my old copy of The Hobbit, read by Nicol Williamson, I can put on CD and then not have to worry about the tapes finally dying. Hurray!

Right, I'm going now, to play with the new Harry Potter trailer that [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris gave me, and photos I've been downloading, and then to watch Stargate! Huzzah! *g*

(That's if I can stay awake long enough - I didn't get my full 8 hours sleep last night. Although in a way, this is a good thing, as it means that I will possibly get back into normal people's routine, as opposed to a vampire's!)
heliona: (Default)
Yes, I got my microphone, and I've finally done the reading aloud. So, here, in all it's dubious glory (dubious because I read it, not because Auburn wrote it!), is Ribbit by Auburn read by me! I hope it's not too bad!

Also, here is [livejournal.com profile] notasalmon saying hello!

Here's hoping they work! Currently, Ribbit is up at [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris's site, because I didn't have the room, but I'm hoping to convert it so it'll fit. So, [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris, thank you for "letting" me use it (I just put it one, the advantages of knowing her password!) and I'll take it off as soon as I can!

ETA: to change the link to "Ribbit."

Blah again

Yes, I'm bored. I've just finished going over [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris's CV for her, and changing a few things, and now I have to hang around for an hour, doing nothing. Don't you hate it when you're on the Internet and you really can't be bothered doing anything, but as soon as you get home, you can think of all sorts of things you could have done.

What's more, I can't even go and download any fic, since I don't have Frankie with me. Grr!

Hmm, speaking of fic, I'm in the middle of reading Tamora Pierce books, so I might go and see if I can find any decent fanfic.

Am also hoping to have a new layout for my Friends page for tomorrow. I've got some ideas floating about in my head, I've just got to find time to do something about them tonight, in between doing the ironing and watching ER!

EDITTED: spoilers for Tamora Pierce books )
heliona: (Default)
Well, I'm currently at the Observatory, doing absolutely no work whatsoever! Instead, I'm listening to music and dossing about on the Internet. Since this will probably be the only week when I'm not doing any work, so I figure I'll enjoy while I can!

I'm having men issues too. (What a surprise!) A friend of [livejournal.com profile] notsalmon's and mine sort of set me up with this really nice guy, but I haven't heard from him recently. Normally I would say that he wasn't interested, but he did seem interested, and texted me after our date, so I don't know! Argh!

On another, stressful note, I've got projects to research and write, and also a social event for my society which is on Thursday! Eek! Still, since this is my last year at uni, I've got used to stress, and generally use fanfiction as a stress-reliever! The only thing is, I'm running out of good fic! :D I'm even getting desperate enough to troll through Fanfiction.net to find good fic! How desperate am I? :D
