Firefox 3.0 Warning!

Okay, for those of you who haven't downloaded the new version of Firefox yet, I would strongly advise you not to! There are several reasons:

• Not all the add-ons work with it.


• It is *not* any faster than the previous version (in fact I've found it to be in some cases slower)


• It keeps crashing - it has crashed on me twice already today, and I've only had the computer on for about 20 minutese


• As far as I can see, it's not as user-friendly as the previous version.

Now, I will admit that the first and last are my opinions, but the middle two are fairly important, and are facts. Also, for some reason, it is refusing to finish loading Hotmail accounts - it just keeps going with the little circles. I can access things in Hotmail, but I don't know why it doesn't finish loading.

So, my advice is don't upgrade until all these bugs have been sorted out!

Also, I just did a quick search on the Mozilla site to try and find a way to contact them to complain (because every time Firefox crashes, I don't get a 'send error report' box. Instead I get a 'Windows will try and find a solution to the problem' and subsequently 'Windows has not found a solution, but will let you know when it does'.). The one time I actually *want* to send an error report and I can't!!

I've slowly been working on it and I've seem to got it running alright at the moment.

That helped me a lot... especially loading in safe mode. Some of the addons that claimed to be compatible were the ones crashing the browser on me. Now, it sucks that I cannot use the addon but at least the browser doesn't crash anymore.

But yeah, I've found it to be slower as well.

Thanks for that link, hellokimberly. :) It seems to settle down after a while. Hotmail still won't finish loading, though - that's really annoying me!

I downloaded it yesterday on both my work and home computers (running XP and Ubuntu Hardy, respectively). Haven't had any problems whatsoever. I first tried FF3 on my home computer when I upgraded to Hardy, but AdBlock and Foxmarks didn't work. That was a month and a half ago. Now they both work fine.

If you have a couple of addons that you simply must have but that aren't compatible with FF3, you might want to keep an eye on their dev pages, as they should be updating fairly soon.

Ooh Foxmarks! That's the one add-on that's stopped me using it on my PC! (We've been using it on the mac though). Sorted!

We've been using the testing beta on the mac for a couple of months now and it's only crashed a couple of times (which is the point of a testing release after all) and it comes with a quick bookmark to report faults. One click! My only complaint was that Foxmarks didn't work with it (didn't expect it too though - I'll have to wait for an official release and an upgrade to Foxmarks). I think it is faster for Googlemail, but other than that, I haven't notices much difference in speed.
