Okay, so this morning on the breakfast news, they showed clips of people who had queued for up to 36 hours to get their hands on 'Deathly Hallows'. This was in between clips of the flooded areas in England.

It suddenly struck me (mainly now because I hadn't really been thinking about it before) that this world is really very strange, and a lot of people have some very strange priorities!

Now, I fully admit that I will read 'Deathly Hallows' sooner rather than later, although that's mainly so that there's less chance of me getting spoilt than anything else. If I could leave it for a while without being spoilt, I would.

But there were people, kids and adults, fighting over a book. A book, for goodness' sake! Seriously, people! It's only a book! It's not the end of the world!

I know quite a few of you on my flist have been similarly apathetic towards Harry Potter, and I think it's quite refreshing. (Of course, once I get the book in my hands, I won't put it down until I've finished reading it, but that happens with a lot of books.)

I did have a longer, more intelligent post in my head a few hours ago, but it's late now and my brain's a little fried.

In other, sort of related news, the one good thing about the OotP film coming out and the book as well is that it's got my creative juices going again. I've been making new notes for 'Wood & Wild'.

Also, I've just rewatched 'The Craft' on Channel 4, and it didn't end the way I remember at all!

Okay, I realise I've been a bit remiss about posting, but I've just started my new job and every night when I get back, I'm shattered. All I have time for is to snag anything Lee Mead-related from the wonderful comm, [livejournal.com profile] lee_mead and then go to bed! However, tomorrow is one of my days off, so I'll do some proper updates then!

Now I'm off to watch Graham Norton. :)

Oh, and everyone, don't forget to vote for Lee on Any Dream Will Do on Saturday! *g*
heliona: (Default)
Okay, I'm about 5 minutes into 'watching' Eurovision (because you can't really watch it, it's more of an 'endure' than anything else) and Terry Wogan has got me laughing already.

You may notice that because I'm updating LJ whilst enduring Eurovision that it's not getting my undivided attention! I was trying to watch a Gilmore Girls episode from TV Links but I got two-thirds of the way through at it won't load any more. Grr!

Just finished watching Any Dream Will Do - Lee just gets better and better. Definitely my favourite! (Although anyone who knows my taste in men will have figured that out already!) Still, he's very talented as well!

Can anyone see the icons that I posted? Because I can't now. I could when I'd first posted them, but no matter how often I refresh my page, they've disappeared! *wail* What's happened to them?

ETA: I think there's something wrong with LJ, because I can't access my Scrapbook or anything. Perhaps it will get fixed. I can say for sure that my icons were there not long ago! But now, when I try to look at my photos, all I get is a 404. Grr!

So, it appears that we still have no internet at home. It's very annoying to say the least! Virgin Media are being total w*nkers - they charging a HUGE amount for the useless service that they provide, and apparently 'their system is down' at the moment. Probably due to the humungous amount of people calling up to complain!

Anyway, I shall have the house to myself this weekend, so I hope it's working tomorrow. *pout* Otherwise what shall I do? I won't be able to update LJ with my new icons (that I haven't made yet because I was tired last night and went to bed reasonably early) and about climbing. I won't be able to use my groovy new climbing icon! *wail*

However, lack of internet may mean that I'll do other stuff, like actually do some writing! *g*

In other news, my ears are still playing up a little. Yesterday the pain stopped in my right ear and immediately moved into my left. Then by the late afternoon, there was no pain.

Now, I can feel a twinge just starting in my right ear again. Grrr!

Catherine thought it might be wisdom teeth, but I'm more inclined to think it has something to do with the flying I did on Monday. However, it's obviously getting better, because the pain was less yesterday than it was the day before, and it's even less today (so far!).

I'd better go and check my bank account now. *sigh* I wish there was even a slight chance of there not being a "-" sign in front of the figure in my account, but there isn't.

Right, so it's lunch-time, and I'm bored, so here are the results of my boredom!

LJ pirate crew )

My Plans for World Domination, aided by fellow LJers! )

My evil LJ villainous companions )

Famous Last Words )

Okay, that's all I've got time for. Hope you enjoyed the show! *g*

Gotta get back to work now.

So, I'm back. Haven't got time to post tonight - I'm absolutely shattered. But I'll post tomorrow and let you know about my little trip that covered almost every form of public transport!

Oh, and I'm fit! *g*

Just come back from the hairdresser. My hair is now short. Well, okay, it's not short in the normal sense, it's just short for me! It's about Sydney's length now, but without the dreadful fringe!

Nothing much else has been happening, just been mooching around watching the television. Have seen random episodes of Charmed (which I'm now addicted to, which is terrible, since I don't have any of it!) and various other things like Earth: Final Conflict, Veritas: The Quest and other stuff that's been cancelled! Ooh, Battlestar Gallactica the 2nd series (I've seen the pilot and 14 minutes of the 2nd episode, but nothing else!) starts tonight (I think, or else it's tomorrow). Stargate Atlantis starts soon too. Hmm, haven't seen Season 7 yet, but still! *g*

Hey everyone!

I'm back in the UK for a quick hello, and it's freezing! It's seriously cold! I've come from Gibraltar, where it's still warm - I was wearing a sleeveless top and shorts all the time. I can't cope with this weather anymore!

I haven't really got much else to say except hello. A quick lowdown from you all would be great, since there's no way on earth I can catch up on what's been happening!

Hope everyone's doing fine.

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] nimoloth, and thought it was quite thought-provoking. It is a transcription of one of Garrison Keillor's monologues, 'News From Lake Wobegon' on his radio show 'A Prairie Home Companion' (Minnesota Public Radio). It was written and broadcast in the early 1990's.

"America is a country that God has blessed so much, we have not suffered as other people have. We don't know what suffering is like.

We have not known war in our country since 1865 - that experience of war in 1865 was so horrible, in this country, the civil war, that we did not lift our hand against anybody for years and years after that. But over the years, we've become so prosperous, and we have developed technology that allows us to deliver war to other people and it never falls on us.

We have no idea what war is like in this country. Our soldiers know, but when they come back to tell us we don't know what they're talking about. We don't know what war is like in this country, and so it behooves us to be careful. And to rain down death on people... and then to gloat over it, is not becoming, in God's eyes. It is not good - to rain down destruction, from this country which knows so little suffering that our own... navels become the source of our suffering, is not pleasant and good in God's eyes. We should be very careful ... very careful."

Grr argh!

I've just realised that although I've made them 1024x768, the desktops aren't actually that size because Photobucket shrinks them. I'll try and upload somewhere else, so you can get them the proper size! Bah!

ETA: I've uploaded them to [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris's domain, so they're the right size now. *g* Thank you, hon. :)

ETA2: The other Sark desktop that I mentioned, that I had got off LJ somewhere, well [livejournal.com profile] kyizi thinks that it came off [livejournal.com profile] queenmab_223's LJ.

Well, I've spent quite a while on the Internet, and have as a result, remembered why I love it so much. Other people have been on and I've been having conversations with them! It's fabulous!

Sure, it's meant it took me forever to get any work done, but that's by the by!

And, I'm back to listening to Radiohead! For some reason, the computer seems to like my CD again! Hurray! Just realised that I'm listening to the same song as the last time I updated! It must be something to do with the song that makes me want to update!

Bah! I want more icons, but I don't want a paid account. *pout* This sucks! I have fantastic ideas for icons (in fact, I've already made some) but I don't want to change my theme so rapidly again. I do have a great Sark theme, though. Hmm. I might investigate changing things. Still, only three icons suck. I could cope with 15, I'm not greedy! *g*

Right, I suppose I'd better stop gibbering and go home, since it's nearly seven in the evening. Although the two bars of chocolate have sustained me, I'm getting hungry again. Also, my hands are rather cold! *g*

And, if I go home, I might actually get work done! *g*

Right, I'm just off to look for a list of Alias - Season 3 episodes, and then I'm going! Honest! *g*

Grr argh!

Well, found out today that I don't have just one report due in on Friday, but two! Oh yay! And I haven't started on either. Fortunately, I do have the knack of just sitting down and writing them, but still, I'm not looking forward to it.

In other, happier news, I made it into uni today (hence my posting) and [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris had my microphone for me, so I should be putting up Ribbit by Auburn soon. Assuming I can figure out how to work my computer!

Also, I got given two new books, and the Season 6 finale to Stargate SG-1, which I missed on Sunday because I didn't have a TV guide and it wasn't on at the normal time. How I'm going to be able to resist all those temptations and do work, I don't know! *g*

I watched the pilot episode of ER last night. (My flat mate has the First Season on DVD.) It was really weird. I haven't actually seen much of Season 1 - I think only the last few episodes. The fact that Greene and Ross and Carol and Benton were there was weird enough, but Carter not being able to suture, that was really funny! It was just odd to watch! But really good, it was ER in it's hay-day. (Well, obviously, it was the beginning of ER, so it had to be good.)

Also, in my sleep-deprived state (it was about 3 in the morning) I noticed that the ER looked really familiar (and not in the "see it every week because I watch the show" familiar) but because I suddenly remembered that ER is the thing that the post office uses because it stands for something in Latin involving the Queen that I can't remember any more! Something Regina.

Okay, enough random rubbish. I'm off to try and get some work done. Ta ra!

Okay, so yummy Russell has gone now, so I'm allowed to post without him seeing!

I'm currently just waiting for [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris to get out of her lecture - and now she's here, so I'm off!

Ta ra!
