Before I start, I should say that I HAVEN'T READ DEATHLY HALLOWS YET AND IF ANYONE MENTIONS ANYTHING IN THE COMMENTS, I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND CRUCIO YOU!!!

Okay, so this morning on the breakfast news, they showed clips of people who had queued for up to 36 hours to get their hands on 'Deathly Hallows'. This was in between clips of the flooded areas in England.

It suddenly struck me (mainly now because I hadn't really been thinking about it before) that this world is really very strange, and a lot of people have some very strange priorities!

Now, I fully admit that I will read 'Deathly Hallows' sooner rather than later, although that's mainly so that there's less chance of me getting spoilt than anything else. If I could leave it for a while without being spoilt, I would.

But there were people, kids and adults, fighting over a book. A book, for goodness' sake! Seriously, people! It's only a book! It's not the end of the world!

I know quite a few of you on my flist have been similarly apathetic towards Harry Potter, and I think it's quite refreshing. (Of course, once I get the book in my hands, I won't put it down until I've finished reading it, but that happens with a lot of books.)

I did have a longer, more intelligent post in my head a few hours ago, but it's late now and my brain's a little fried.

In other, sort of related news, the one good thing about the OotP film coming out and the book as well is that it's got my creative juices going again. I've been making new notes for 'Wood & Wild'.

Also, I've just rewatched 'The Craft' on Channel 4, and it didn't end the way I remember at all!

You mean you don't want to know that Harry runs off to Aruba with Pansy Parkinson to sell Hula skirts?

Helen!

I think some people take it a bit too far, definitely. I get the idea of lining up at midnight with friends, because that's a social thing, but fighting over a book? Not cool.

And running into the shop to make sure you get the first one? Seriously! Everyone who wants a copy will get one!

People do go over the top! Personally, I wouldn't want to line up, but that's because I've spent a lot of time whilst I was at uni queueing late at night and freezing to death (and the summer here at the moment is quite cold!). Personally, I'd rather be in bed and have it delivered to my door! (I haven't ordered it, I'm waiting for my days off, so I'm not tempted to read it at work!)

I pre-ordered my copy and went in at 10:30 on our way to the city to see a musical. The best thing about pre-ordering was that I'd already paid a deposit, so it seemed really cheap on the day :)

I pretty much had to read it ASAP, though, because the majority of my flist is made up of HP fans, and the spoilers tend to start slipping out quite quickly.

I just ordered mine off Amazon, so it should arrive whilst I'm not working. Also, it was cheaper.

I'm a person who like to read on my own in a quiet place, so I'll just tuck myself up with Harry for a few days (and avoid my flist until then!).

I kind of wish that I'd had the option of reading it slowly, because now it's done, it's done forever. But I hate feeling like I've been left behind, so it just wasn't an option *g*

I know how you feel. I've finished reading it now, and I managed to take it quite slowly.

But when I got it delivered, it sat there for about an hour, because I didn't actually want to read it! I was afraid it wouldn't meet my expectations. *sigh* And sadly, I was right. But of course I had to read it, because I'd managed to remain unspoiled for so long that it wasn't going to last much longer.

(I would like to add that I'm typing this whilst being attacked by a kitten who happens to like the clicky noise of the keyboard - it's making life difficult!)

I'm sorry it didn't live up to your expectations :( I've had a mix of estatic people and very disappointed people on my friends list, so unfortunately you're not alone.

Aw, kitten :) I can't leave my laptop on the floor, because the first thing the dog does when he sees it is try to sit on it *g*

Gah! I just typed lots and it all disappeared!

Anyway, I was saying that I wasn't hugely disappointed, just marginally. I was expecting more from Draco considering what happened in Half Blood Prince. I don't know, it was good, but it just do the things for me that Prisoner of Azkaban did. Also, killing off Remus and Tonks and Harry just sort of noting them as corpses lying next to Fred really didn't strike me as right. For starters, I wasn't pleased that Remus was killed (that's a major understatement, I was greeting! (that's Scottish for bawling my eyes out!)) and then Harry didn't seem to have any reaction at all. I realise that he had other things on his mind at the point, but even afterwards there wasn't anything. It just didn't seem right.

Anyway, I plunging myself back into fanfiction where plenty of people are still alive, and I know what happens! *g*

That's been happening to me a lot, lately :(

To be honest, I'm more upset about what the final book did to Remus's character than I am about it killing him off. I lost quite a bit of respect for him when he was about to run off on his pregnant wife :/

(And I realise that makes it sound like he's real *g*)

It's all right, my friends and I have whole conversations about fictional characters as though they were real! (Comes of writing fanfic!)

Actually him wanting to leave Tonks didn't bother me too much. It did strike me as a Remus thing to do. I didn't see it as cowardice in that respect: he really thought that Tonks would be better off without him. Him being a werewolf has obviously effected him a lot. I was just gutted that he was killed off before he got the chance to see that life could be good.

(See, he *is* real!)

I like it, it's just been so long since I'd last seen it that I thought it ended completely differently!

*g* I think it would have been a lot more interesting if Harry had been an actual Potter! *sigh* Well, it's all over now, and I wasn't overwhelmed by the last book. At least I've still got LotR! That never fails to disappoint, and every time I read it, I learn something new!
