I decided it was about time that I used my film icon, and so should post a few film reviews of films that I've seen recently (either for the first time or rewatched).

The Prestige )

Moulin Rouge )

Down With Love )

So there you go. That filled some time, and I got to use my clapper board icon!

I've succumbed (again!) to the lure of Amazon. Yes, here I was, innocently checking out IMDB.com to see if it said anything about Lee Mead, and I thought I'd check out what Hugh Dancy was up to (someone who bears a passing resemblence to Lee Mead, Orlando Bloom, and the unrequited love of my life, Mr TD&H!). I discover he's done a few new films, and then I remember I've got a long list of films and books on my wish list on Amazon.

So, I wander over there to update it, and next thing I know, I've ordered something! Well, three things actually! Argh! Well, I suppose it was only £22, but still.

I ordered:

The Sleeping Dictionary - a film that I absolutely adore.
Shooting Dogs - a film that was highly reviewed and looks like an excellent film, but not one for the faint-hearted.
Ella Enchanted - a great, slightly tongue-in-cheek 'modern' fantasy.

You may have noticed that they all star the delectable Hugh Dancy, who is one of my loves. :)

5' 11" with curly brown hair, gorgeous eyes, lean body, great sense of humour (there's an outtake on Ella Enchanted where Anne Hathaway is about to be trussed up and she says that she's never been tied up. Hugh replies with a grin and says that she hasn't lived! I want a guy like that!) and a great smile: seriously, what more does a girl need? *g*

So, next week, I'll be able to get a Hugh fix. Hurrah! I can't get an Orlando Bloom fix because all my Orli films are with my parents (apart from The Two Towers which, although a fabulous film, is a little long for a guy fix (plus, he's Legolas in that, not himself)), and I don't own anything with Hugh in it yet. *pout*

Oh, I must go and order the US version of King Arthur. It has more extras on it than the UK version. *g*

So, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kyizi, I managed to see Casino Royale at the cinema on Saturday afternoon. It was really good, although I was expecting that, from all I'd heard about it.

Daniel Craig was awesome, in more ways than one. *g* Also, the locations: wow!

That's all I have to say on it.

I'm actually in BSG mode, because I've started writing a BSG fic, which has been betaed by [livejournal.com profile] kyizi to get rid of the Mary-Sue-ishness (because I have an original character (actually, I have lots of OCs, but that's not the point!) who happens to be a girl!) and to set the scene properly, by encouraging me to write in a way that I don't normally.

That's why I miss [livejournal.com profile] kyizi so much. She encourages me to write better, and I would hope that I do the same to her. Of course, we didn't end up writing our joint fic, but she did get some more of her SG-1 fic for [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris, so our time was productive! *g*

Gah, have just found out that I have an Astronomy oral interview with the external examiner on Monday afternoon. Bloody hell, as Ron would say! I'm definitely more of a Ron than a Hermione in this respect. Actually, probably more of a Draco or Harry, in that I'll probably be able to bluff my way through it!

Anyway, snerched from [livejournal.com profile] mental_midget:

movie meme )

Have nothing more to say at the moment, except that I've been terribly uninspired when it comes to Wood & Wild and have only managed to write a couple more paragraphs of Chapter 14. Argh!

Ta ra! I suppose I'd better go and reread my Astronomy projects, or possibly watch the new series of Malcolm in the Middle (woohoo!) and My Family and eat chocolate. (I love BBC sometimes!) Hmm, I wonder which will win over, seeing as it's 23:17! Definitely not a Hermione! *g*

Yes, have finally seen it!

Quick review with spoilers )

Anyway, that's all I have to say on the matter at the moment, since I have to go and catch a train! Don't know when I'll next be on. Ta ta for now! *g*

Yes, I finally got to see almost all of Season 3 Alias.

On Wednesday night, [livejournal.com profile] kyizi, my flatmate, and I went to see Secret Window [in which Johnny Depp is yummy as usual!], and then got home in time to watch ER [mmmm, Luka!], Fraiser, and the double bill of Season 1 Sex & the City. After that, I had an idea for fixing my computer. I tried it, and failed, but then when I looked at the Help, it mentioned something about the volume being too high. So as I was changing the volume controls, I realised that when I turned down the "line in" volume, the sound quality was getting better. Eventually, I muted it, and the sound was back to normal. If it hadn't been about 1 in the morning, I would have been running around singing. As it was, I was doing a little hyper dance quietly in bed.

And, since [livejournal.com profile] kyizi had given me Alias episodes 12-19 that evening, guess what I did? *g*

So, what follows are my random comments on those episodes.

Alias; Season 3 rant + spoilers )

I haven't actually really done anything else [I wrote that last night, whilst everything was still in my memory.] except watched a few more episodes of Stargate SG-1, since by the time I'd finished watching Alias, it was too late to attempt to do any work.

But, now I'm off to make a banner for the meeting between [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris, [livejournal.com profile] kyizi, and myself, and [livejournal.com profile] eretria and [livejournal.com profile] murron on Monday. Hurray, I can't wait!
heliona: (Default)
Okay, so I'm reading this fic, or rather a trilogy, which has been out for ages. It's a Harry Potter trilogy, written by Barb, and can be found here. I read the first part ages ago, but I was terrified about how it ended and didn't even get the second and third parts for ages.

Anyway, I got them last week, and started reading the second part, Harry Potter and the Time of Good Intentions on Saturday night at about 11 o'clock. I couldn't stop reading it. I mean, seriously, I could physically stop. It was like an addiction. And not a good one when there are 21 chapters that are really long! I didn't get to sleep until 11 in the morning. Yes, that 12 hours, 12 HOURS reading. Or possibly more, since I may have started earlier.

I finally got to sleep and got up at about 3:30 in the afternoon. I actually wasn't that tired. I mean, I could have slept more, obviously, but I managed to cope once I was up. I decided to get up, otherwise my clock would be completely out of whack.

Anyway, last night, whilst recording Sleepy Hollow with the lovely Johnny Depp, I started on the third part of the trilogy. Argh! I'm starting to get annoyed with all the characters. And apparently none of the male characters can resist wanting to sleep with women/girls! Seriously, no-one I knew was that bad at 16/17. Maybe it's something to do with being magical. I realise that this now sounds as though I'm not enjoying the fic at all. Quite the contrary, I am, immensely, but I can see everything going disasterously wrong. It's a bit like watching a train wreck in slow-mo. Especially since I'm only on chapter 8 and there are 31 of them!

*sigh* Randomly, did you know that [livejournal.com profile] kyizi is actually saying "sigh" now when she's sighing?! I think that sabbatical from the Internet is going to do her a world of good!

[livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris has just given me Season 4 Stargate SG-1, a really good book called The Changeover (who's characters feature in an extremely good Harry Potter fic called Paradigm of Uncertainty [it and its sequels can be found here] which is actually mine, and also the new David and Leigh Eddings book that I mentioned before. How am I expected to get any work done at all?

Nothing else is happening, other than the fact that I'm currently hating Glaswegian weather, since it started off lovely and sunny, and then decided to rain, then went sunny again, then got windy and cold, and then *hailed*. I wouldn't be surprised to see snow soon! I'm esconced in the library at the moment, since we got chucked out of the Kelvin Building (where all physicists and especially astronomers like to live) because the security doors weren't locking, so I can't really tell what the weather's like at the mo, although I think the sun's out.

[livejournal.com profile] kyizi, my flatmate, and I are going to see Secret Window on Wednesday (back in time to watch ER, naturally). Having just found out that it's a Stephen King horror, I think I'm going to entertain them. I have a habit of jumping a lot, although at least I don't scream ear-piercingly like [livejournal.com profile] kyizi!

Okay, I'd better go now whilst the weather is reasonably good. I don't fancy walking home in wind and hail!

Okay, this is hilarious. I found it via [livejournal.com profile] slowfox: Lord of the Rings PhD style

Spent almost all of the early morning talking with [livejournal.com profile] kyizi and my flatmate. Didn't get to bed until about 5! We watched Stephen King's IT which Lynne and I had seen, but [livejournal.com profile] kyizi hadn't. It was a bit disappointing really, since we'd seen it when we were 10 and 12, and rewatching it, we realised it was a bit dated. But, since I'm a wuss when it comes to horror films, I still jumped, and Lynne and I hid our heads when we knew there were scary clown bits coming up.

After that, [livejournal.com profile] kyizi told us some really amusing dreams. That kept us entertained for hours.

Nothing else has happened, except that I'm getting PS7 today, woohoo! Also, I should be getting Alias soon, and despite [livejournal.com profile] kyizi delaying because she's saying that Doyle (my computer) isn't working so I can't watch them, I fully intend to burn them to VCD so I can watch them on a DVD player, since I don't know when I'll be able to get Alias Season 3 on DVD. Also, fingers crossed, a friend of mine might be able to fix Doyle without much trouble.

Okay, for starters, I have to see Elektra now: Goran Visnjic in Elektra

Also, Alias Season 3 DVD (Region 1) comes out on September 7th. And no matter how crappy it may be at the moment, I'm going to be getting my sticky little hands on it one way or the other.

In other news, I spent 3 hours on Friday night changing my website diary page, and another hour today, making sure it had uploaded properly. There is now a proper Blog-like diary there, and, despite looking crappy on 800x600 resolution, it looks fantastic. *g*

Also, I got Due South Season 2 on Saturday morning. I had to pay Customs on it, which I wasn't pleased about, since I never had to pay Customs on either Alias or my Frankie Muniz DVDs. Grr! It means that when Due South Season 1 comes, I'll have to pay £12 on that as well.

I did get some frights whilst watching it, though. (I discovered pleasantly that I'd only seen about half the season before.) Carrie-Anne Moss of Trinity-Matrix fame was in an episode called Juliet is Bleeding, playing Ray's one true love, and Amanda Tapping (Major Sam Carter in Stargate SG-1) was in an episode called Starman. The Amanda Tapping episode was rather like deja-vu, since she played a scientist who worked for the military on a top-secret experiment involving alien spaceships! *g*

I went to the Postgraduate's Club on Saturday night with [livejournal.com profile] nimoloth to see her friend's funk band play. It was really good. There was a free BBQ there as well, and the drinks were really cheap, so the whole night only cost about £2! It was fabulous. I need more nights out like that!

Other than that, I've not been doing much, just watching Due South and bemoaning the fact that there aren't any extras on it. *pout*

And the sun's out and it's gorgeous! I'm actually showing my legs. (Although they're not as white as normal, since I'm trying out some tanning mousse stuff on them, in the theory that if it doesn't work, then I can always go back to wearing trousers until it washes off!)

Well, according to Alias Media, the Alias season finale is currently scheduled for the 23rd of May. Just when my exams start - oh joy!

In other news, went to see Hidalgo yesterday, and yes, I cried. But not for the reason that I thought. It was one of those films that you can't help crying at (although my flatmate didn't, but she doesn't tend to cry at films). Seeing as I cry when I watch horse races, then I was bound to whilst watching a film about a horse race!

Although, [livejournal.com profile] kyizi completely ruined my crying buzz, because she was bouncing up and down in her seat at the end of the race, whilst I was wanting to cry with the emotion of it. It's a little hard to cry when the person sitting next to you is bouncing and clapping her hands like a 5-year-old (yes, that's how [livejournal.com profile] kyizi acts when watching a film, and don't deny it!). Still, I got my crying at the end.

It made me in the mood to watch Due South, and although Season 2 has been dispatched, it's not arrived yet! *wail* I want it! Watched Season 3 Stargate instead, and *wail* for Martouf. I love him!

Also spent about 2 and half hours sorting out the Astrosoc bank account today with the help of [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris. Still have to do the cashbox accounts. Eek! They're going to be the trouble.

I also haven't actually started Wood & Wild Chapter 14, but I have been thinking about it, so I know what's going to be in it, which is more than can be said of about 3 days ago!

I'd better go and get some studying done now, since I haven't done any today, instead sorting out accounts. Grr!
heliona: (Default)
Okay, first of all, for those of you that might be interested, I'm hoping to start Chapter 14 of Wood & Wild tonight, fingers crossed. It's another complicated chapter to write, so I don't know how long it will take me, though.

And now, as you will know if you read yesterday's entry, I went to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind yesterday. Here's my spoilery-ish review )

Well, I watched the beginning of Stargate SG-1 Season 3 last night. Managed the first 3 episodes before falling asleep.

I think [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris, who's sitting beside me, is about to post a meme, so I might attach one to the end of this post, because I'm bored, and don't want to do any work! Okay, she's not, but here it is anyway:

heliona: (Default)
Grr! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] corngirl_jo mentioning Due South, I've been craving it over the weekend. This led to a search on the Internet for DVDs, and lo and behold, Season 1 and 2 have been released earlier this year. Naturally, I had to buy them. For some unknown reason, Season 3 has been delayed, so I don't know when I'm going to get that.

And Season 1 isn't in stock, so that's awaiting stock, which means I could be waiting *ages*. It took forever for The Faculty to arrive. Season 2 is ready for dispatch, so I'll be getting that in the next couple of days! It's a good job I've seen them all before, otherwise I'd be watching them in the wrong order!

In other, DVD-related news, I am now in the possession of Season 3 Stargate SG-1, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris. Huzzah!

Also, no studying tonight, as am going to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with [livejournal.com profile] kyizi tonight - she managed to get preview tickets. Will also be going to see Hidalgo sometime this week. Although, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kyizi's suspiciously non-responsive reply to my comment that my flatmate thought it might end badly, ie: the horse may die, I have a feeling that I'm going to bawl my eyes out at it! Or else, I'm going to be expecting the horse to drop dead at any moment! *g* The only thing that will keep me going is the fact that Viggo bought it, so technically it's not dead. That's assuming, of course, that it does die! It may not! And I don't want anyone to let me know!

RE: the music. I *swear* that this is just a coincidence!

heliona: (Default)
Bah! I'm seriously bored. And technically, I shouldn't be, since I'm on the Internet and therefore could be browsing whatever I want to. But that involves actually thinking, and I don't want to have to think!

I've been investigating other courses at other unis and can't find anything that remotely interests me. That's the trouble with me, once I find something I decide I like, I stick to it like glue and leave myself no option! Probably not the best plan in the world when I'm wanting to travel to the other end of the world and if I can't get the money etc I'm stuffed!

Still, sitting here trying not think about it better than going home to the *huge* pile of ironing that is waiting for me! I really don't want to think about that! Plus, ER's on tonight, and then Frasier, and then Sex in the City, which was Friday's episode, but I never got to watch that one on Friday, because I was out galivanting. I think I missed the episode before as well.

Ooh, ooh, good news though! My DVDs came in on Monday. So I'm now the proud owner of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Special Edition), X-Men 2 (Special Edition), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Special Edition), Flipper, and Ned Kelly.

Say it with me: Stuart Townsend = grrr
Hugh Jackman = grrr
Alan Rickman = grrr
Elijah Wood = grrr (and wet as well!)
Orlando Bloom = grrr (even with face fuzz!)

And no, they're not the *entire* reason I bought the DVDs. I've actually seen all the films before and loved them. (Although LXG could've been better.)

About the only films I've bought without seeing them because of who's in them are: The Perfect Murder (Viggo Mortensen), Heavenly Creatures (Peter Jackson directed), and more recently, The Secret Craft (David Anders). I figured that they were reason enough to buy them! Although only The Secret Craft did I actually buy new on DVD. The others were cheap, second-hand videos. Of course, the only way I could get The Secret Craft (which is so bad that no-one has ever heard of it!) was to order it, and I figured if I was going to order it, I might as well get it on DVD and then at least I could take screencaps of the lovely David. Which reminds me, I promised I was going to do that, and haven't yet. [livejournal.com profile] kyizi has taken some, which she's given to me, so I suppose I could put them up for your perusal!

I'd better head on up to the library now and try and find some books on Fluid Dynamics. Trust me when I say that sounds infinitely more exciting than it is!
heliona: (Default)
Well, I managed to stay awake in RotK, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even managed not to cry, just.

I discovered that I completely missed a bit last time because I was crying so much! And since I knew what happened this time (obviously the first time I knew what happened, but I mean how the film went), I could observe more. Billy Boyd's performance was outstanding. He outshone everyone else, in my opinion, and I want to nominate him for Best Supporting Actor, dammit!

Also, I couldn't help but see Orlijah, at least on Elijah's part! Argh! This is not normally me, but I can forgive it because it was at the bit when Frodo's been rescued and everyone comes in to see him, and Legolas looks really Elvish and unbelievably yummy!

Also, giggled over another Pirates reference. Firstly, there were the skeletons, and then there were the ships sailing into Minas Tirith and the orcs saying "They're late, bloody pirates" or some such. And then Orli jumps off the boat! He he! See what happens when you watch RotK when you're sleep deprived!

After that we went to see Scary Movie 3, which was funny. Not really very good, but it made me laugh, which is suppose is the whole point. I still maintain that the second one is the best, but I am a little biased. After all, Chris Masterson is in that one! *g*

Oh, on a completely unrelated note, [livejournal.com profile] kyizi told me to tell you all that Jack was named after Captain Jack Sparrow and it's just coincidence that it could be Jack Bristow or Jack O'Neill!
heliona: (Default)
Yes, I managed to upload the right one, now!

And, I think it looks good, at least on 800x600, which is what these uni computers are. You'll have to let me know if it looks really stupid on 1024x768, and if so, how I can centre the stupid thing using over-rides!

[livejournal.com profile] notasalmon couldn't show me how to use over-rides, I ended up sort of snitching the html from one of [livejournal.com profile] ignited's livejournal layouts, and then changing it so it would fit into the over-ride thing!

Still, I'm learning how to change the colours now!

[livejournal.com profile] kyizi and I went to the cinema last night and saw The Medallion and LXG. )

Today, I brought my laptop into uni, because I had the image of the tickets that we're selling for our ceilidh at the beginning of December on it. Also, I had it as layers in Photoshop, which was a good job, since I had to change stuff on it. I have to say, I felt really strange with my laptop out in the Common Room!

It also meant that I could upload my new layout, since I hadn't put it on Frankie (my USB drive).

I've also updated my website, which is now nearly working properly, I do believe. Basically, at the moment, it's just sitting there, looking pretty, but fingers crossed, soon there'll actually be stuff on it! :D
heliona: (Default)
Okay, I'm in hugely lustful mood at the moment, and Tom Felton/Draco is the lucky (?) object of my affections.

Also, I watched 2 Fast 2 Furious last night, and am drooling over Paul Walker.

Basically anyone who's blond and reasonably good-looking doesn't stand a chance around me!

This is a very pointless post, since I don't actually have much to say. I've downloaded the Prisoner of Azkaban trailer (thank you [livejournal.com profile] projectgalem and am going to go home and watch it with sound! Woohoo! Although, am upset about the lack of Draco-ness. :( Give me more Draco!! *ahem* Moving on...

I don't really have much else to say, except to ask - those of you that have HP & Chamber of Secrets on DVD, can you get the DVD-ROM stuff working? Because mine keeps going on about a run-time error or something and nothing happens, which I'm very upset about!
heliona: (Default)
At least, it feels like it. I walk out of the flat today, and the sun's shining and the birds are singing, and it's warm! What's going on? It's meant to be really cold and frosty and snowing! Argh!

Anyway, onto other news. I had to run out of a lecture yesterday because I wasn't feeling well. I ended up going home and watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Then [livejournal.com profile] kyizi came round and gave me lots of her pretty Alias, Harry Potter, and Johnny Depp photos. She gave me inspiration and I made two Tom Felton desktops. I'm glad that he's 16 now, I can be open about my love! :D

My mind has now gone blank. Ooh, I know that there's a trailer for Troy, but I can't find a place to download it. If anyone knows where I can actually download it (because these uni computers don't have the software to play it, but I can download it onto my USB drive and play it on my laptop), then please let me know! :)

I'd better go, got a lecture to go to.

Oh, and I hope you enjoyed the concert, [livejournal.com profile] mental_midget.
heliona: (Default)
Okay, so it was my birthday on Monday, and I turned the ripe old age of 22 (yes, I'm now the same age as David, it hasn't escpaed my notice!). Funny thing is, I don't actually feel any older!

Anyway, I went out on Thursday night with my flatmate, and had an absolute blast. Didn't pull anyone, but since my flatmate is considerably not single, I wasn't really planning on pulling and leaving her all on her own.

Then, I went out on Friday night as well, which was pretty good. Didn't pull then either. :(

Monday was a full day at uni, so it wasn't that exciting, but I did go to the cinema to see Bad Boys 2, which was much better than I thought it was going to be, and OMG, Will Smith was so hot in it!

Then, Tuesday, I got a little note through the door telling me that my DVDs had arrived! I started dancing right there and then! I dashed out the door to go to the post office to pick them up and was nearly late for my first lecture, but I didn't care, since I am now the proud possessor of The Secret Craft, with David Anders (or rather David Holt, as that's how he's credited) goodness! I managed to sort out the problem with my DVD player, too. When I turned it on, the tv screen flickered all the time, but I discovered that it's the scart socket of the tv that's to blame, since when I plugged the player into my other tv, it worked fine.

So, I ended up watching David whilst in bed. I can't think of a better place! :D It's a really bizarre film, but definitely worth it for the David-ness, although he's not in it a huge amount. And he's got the hair, and the arms! Guh! He's always wearing a wife-beater, which normally I'd be dead against, but it's David. He'd look good in a sack! I'll try and screencap some tonight - I know there's some on his website, but I'll try and get some more.

And, not only did I get David in a box, but I got Indiana Jones, the 4 disk set too! I'm over the moon! :D
heliona: (Default)
Firstly, Laura deserves a medal and a big helping of Larry (of Ally McBeal fame) and Vaughn (she's not a Sark fan) for telling me how to put a Zip file over more than one floppy. I knew it could be done, but I'm not good with ZipCentral on these stupid uni computers. However, she showed me how to do it, and now I have that clip from Succession on three floppies for my viewing pleasure at home, on my darling laptop.

Secondly, I love my flatmate. Or rather, my flatmate's boyfriend. He's got Broadband, and has offered to download various films, like Finding Nemo and Pirates. I actually declined for Pirates, since I want it on DVD, and I think I can wait until then, after all, I can get my Orli goodness from the extended DVD of The Two Towers in November. However, I did, of course, jump at the offer, since I figure it wouldn't be too hard for him to get the episodes of Alias Season 3 for me! :D Fingers crossed that his new DVD Burner works, since his last one died!

On another friend note, I heard from [livejournal.com profile] notasalmon yesterday, and she's having a ball. So much so that she actually FORGOT about Season 3 Alias! I know, I nearly keeled over in shock!
