Yes, I finally got to see almost all of Season 3 Alias.

On Wednesday night, [livejournal.com profile] kyizi, my flatmate, and I went to see Secret Window [in which Johnny Depp is yummy as usual!], and then got home in time to watch ER [mmmm, Luka!], Fraiser, and the double bill of Season 1 Sex & the City. After that, I had an idea for fixing my computer. I tried it, and failed, but then when I looked at the Help, it mentioned something about the volume being too high. So as I was changing the volume controls, I realised that when I turned down the "line in" volume, the sound quality was getting better. Eventually, I muted it, and the sound was back to normal. If it hadn't been about 1 in the morning, I would have been running around singing. As it was, I was doing a little hyper dance quietly in bed.

And, since [livejournal.com profile] kyizi had given me Alias episodes 12-19 that evening, guess what I did? *g*

So, what follows are my random comments on those episodes.

Okay, so I've seen up to and including episode 19 of Alias now and here are a few of my opinions.

On Lauren:

Well, I do like her a bit more, but if she thinks that she understands Sark, she has got another think coming. She has no clue!

As for that wig that Vaughn found, what the hell? She just happens to keep one wig hidden in suitcase, and all the others that she's used aren't there? Talk about a random plot device.

And the evil eyeliner. Since I was expecting it because you guys had been talking about it, that made it all the funnier. "I can only do my evil deeds if I have black eyeliner." If she needs to wear eyeliner to do her job, clearly she's not as good as she thinks she is. And she does. She's as cocky as Sark, with less reason to be. When has Sark left obvious clues around? Sark knows his enemy. You would think that being around Jack Bristow would lead Lauren to realise that this is one guy you can't fool easily. Any spy worth their salt would realise that the "confession" and "suicide" of Senator Reed was a tad too convenient. Any moron would think that, and draw conclusions from it.

On Sark:

This guy gets hotter every episode! And, I know some of you were worried about him being ruled by his bits, so to speak, but personally, I don't think he was. Even when he watched Lauren kill head blokey (can't remember his name, but you know the one, a head of a Convenant cell, in the car park), yeah, sure, he looked pleased, and fair enough, he complimented her. But, even when they were in bed, after she got out bed, the look that he gave her wasn't one of love/devotion to me - it seemed much more calculating.

Initially, I thought it was just me trying to convince myself that he hadn't changed, but when he told Lauren to kill her father, I realised that he had never left. He's manipulating Lauren. Add that to the fact that he shot Bomani and told her to trust him. Come on, that was clearly all a ploy. He was going to kill Bomani anyway, whether or not Lauren was in danger. Bomani threatened Sark. We all know that no-one does that and gets away with it.

And the way he's been calling her "sweetheart" and "darling" (which, I might add, stopped after a few episodes), that was the height of sarcasm - it's a very British sarcasm, too much endearments. That totally made Sark for me (I can't remember what line, but it was perfect.). I could hear myself saying stuff like that (I'm extremely sarcastic myself, and very pleased that, when he was with Lauren and she pointed out really obvious stuff, Sark merely replied with extremely sarcastic comments that could have come out of my mouth!)

Sark's just using Lauren as an insider, (and obviously isn't as confident in her skills as a spy as he implied to Bomani, especially since he realises that Lauren has feelings for Vaughn), I'm confident now. He doesn't really give two hoots what happens to her. Sure, he might be sleeping with her, but he has to have her thinking that he's got feelings for her. (And I'm sure, since he's a young guy, it's not much of a hardship for him!)

I don't know what his endgame is, but I'm fairly certain it's not got anything to do with the Convenant. Obviously, it's to save his own ass (and what a lovely one it is too!), and possibly Irina has something to do with it as well. As for the Irina thing, I haven't a clue. I gave up trying to figure out what the hell was going with the Convenant, and who was doing what! Obviously she knows about the Passenger, but hey, this is Irina - she's like Sark, she knows everything!

On Jack:

I love him, and I really have nothing else to say. He's just lovely and cool and can do no wrong!

On Sloane:

I'm still cringing over the thought that Irina slept with him. And how dare he suggest that she had no feelings for Jack when it was obvious to everyone that she did. However, she was clearly a better agent than Lauren, and could still do her job with no-one finding out, putting all personal feeling aside.

I loved the way Barnett just came in as a way to bring the plot along. Couldn't there have been another way for Sloane to say that he'd had an affair with Irina (shudder)? I mean, did she really have to turn up in that incredibly low top (and did anyone notice that her breasts were completely different sizes and shape? I was just entranced by her cleavage, unfortunately!) and then sleep with Sloane? Ugh! Don't get me wrong, I love Ron Rifkin, and he plays Sloane wonderfully, but I can't understand why Barnett would be remotely attracted to him.

Anyway, so Sloane was working for the Trust (I wonder how many "The" somethings are out there? I'm actually thinking of comiling a list.) along with the CIA, the Convenant and God knows who else. How anyone can believe that they can remotely trust this guy is beyond me. He has more agendas than a stationary shop.

On Sydney:

Well, I couldn't stop rolling my eyes every time she cried. I did chuckle when she was telling "The Office" guy (his name has just slipped my mind) that the man that she loved was on that plane. I couldn't help but jump up and down on my bed, yelling, "Yes, Sark's on that plane. She's finally realised who she's meant to be with!" Of course, it took her forever to go, "Oh my God, Vaughn." Jesus, it took Sark 2 seconds, and Vaughn's supposedly the guy she's in love with? Hello? Anyone in there? Normally, you would expect to be worried about your "soulmate" (I nearly barfed when Sydney said that to Barnett.) a little more and thus jump to conclusions slightly quicker than you did, honey. Even Vaughn would have got there faster than you did.

I loved Vaughn having to go and get Sark to sort the bomb out, and the way he just strolled in and sorted it in seconds. It was fabulous.

Despite all the crying, I suppose I was pleasantly surprised by Sydney. I was dreading seeing her because of all your snark, but I didn't think it was that bad (aside from the whole Vaughn/Lauren/Sydney business, which does, admittedly, dismiss about three-quarters of the Sydney air-time!).

On Vaughn:

I didn't think he was that bad, to be honest. Yes, he was a little stupid when it came to Lauren, but, we can't expect miracles from him, can we? He's just, well, Vaughn, I suppose, he's sweet and boring. Punk Vaughn was umm, interesting. Not bad, I suppose, but he cannot carry off black eyeliner, at all! He's always looking worried as well - those furrows should get a separate paycheck!

What I want to know, though, is why he's always going on missions with Sydney? He wasn't a field agent two years ago, and then he left the CIA to teach French. Not exactly a subject that makes him qualified to go on missions now. When did he get field status? Hmm. Weiss was so much cooler when he and Sydney were diamond merchants. I realise that it's being done to supposedly create tension between them and Lauren (as if we haven't had it shoved in our face anyway), but some explanation would have been useful.

Random stuff:

I was actually going to mention something more about Sark, but I can't remember. Apart from the fact that I love him, and he's wonderful, and hasn't really changed at all, just got a little more cocky perhaps. Oh, no, that's not right, I did issues with him stuttering (stuttering, Sark? Seriously, it must have been subterfuge!) and being frightened. Ex-cuse me? Sark, frightened? I think not. At least, if he is, he just gives someone a look, he doesn't show it, for goodness' sake! Although, was I the only person that noticed him clearly watching McKennas Cole and Lauren talking. I don't know how Cole thought walking away from Sark would help, you're telling me that Sark can't lip read? He certainly gave me the impression that he was watching them, and somehow I don't think it was to ensure that Cole violated Lauren - Sark doesn't give a damn about that so long as she trusts him, and besides, he knows that she can take reasonable care of herself.

Speaking of taking care of herself, Lauren's almost as bad as Sydney. She gets herself into things, and then can't carry through. She has to have Sark remind her of her job, and her mother has to do her legwork. I definitely saw parallels between Jack and Olivia occasionally.

Tell you what cheered me up - Blur's "Song 2" being Sark's escape song. Hehe! Okay, so I'm a huge Blur fan and I love that song. (I'm ignoring the fact that Lauren was there.) And, talking about Lauren, how unprofessional was that, telling Sark to pull over having just evaded two reasonably top CIA agents, for a snog? I know he's hot, but hello? Still, I suppose she thought that she could manipulate him by fueling his lust, or whatever. Serves you right, sweetie. I was smirking like crazy when Sark told her to kill her father. Clearly she can't see that he's manipulating her. Ha!

I love Marshall - he's so sweet. And I miss Weiss. He's only there occasionally. I wish that he had been more involved in the suspicion of Lauren, since it looked as though as he suspected her of something. And, besides, I just love Weiss, want more of him.

I think I've drabbled on enough, mainly about Sark (how hot was he when he leaned out of the truck in the desert?), so I'm going to stop now!

Oh, and about the trucks in the desert, I can kind of understand why they didn't see them in the mirrors. When I'm driving and there's no-one else around, I tend to very rarely look in my mirrors, and they thought they were alone in the desert. (Although I would expect the driver of the front truck to look in the mirror to check on the following truck, especially since it was carrying their captive - it never pays to be lax. Typical that Sark was the only one that noticed.) I laughed aloud when the horses appeared over the sand dune. What happened to dune buggies or anything else that isn't alive? All it would have taken would have been one shot and they would have been out of it - horses aren't bulletproof, contrary to CIA belief. If the drivers had seen them in the mirrors earlier than Sark, Syd and Vaughn would have had it. You can't tell me that Sark wouldn't take out a horse to stop them chasing them (or at least take out Syd and Vaughn)? Dumb luck follows Syd and Vaughn - again!

Okay, seriously, I'm going to stop now. I could go on about stuff for ages, but I'm not going to. Instead, I'm going to try and get some work done!

I haven't actually really done anything else [I wrote that last night, whilst everything was still in my memory.] except watched a few more episodes of Stargate SG-1, since by the time I'd finished watching Alias, it was too late to attempt to do any work.

But, now I'm off to make a banner for the meeting between [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris, [livejournal.com profile] kyizi, and myself, and [livejournal.com profile] eretria and [livejournal.com profile] murron on Monday. Hurray, I can't wait!

I'm adding final pieces to my luggage at the moment. It's still hard to imagine that we'll be in Glasgow tomorrow. I keep thinking that someone will nudge me awake any minute :).

I know the feeling. I can't believe that I'm going to Italy in a few months, and I think that [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris and [livejournal.com profile] kyizi still think they're dreaming about going to Canada in the autumn!
