So, I'm back home, so to speak.

The trip back was never-ending. Up at 6 in the morning, an hour and a half in the car to the airport, standing in a queue for an hour to check-in, straight onto the plane because we were late (although we wouldn't have been if there hadn't been three flights checking in to four check-in desks!) and then 7 hours on the plane. Then another 1 1/2 hours standing in a queue to get past Customs (and they let us in without a return ticket, which we were a little worried about - we were fearing getting pulled aside and questioned!) and because of that, we missed our bus by 10 minutes. So then we had to wait in the airport for two more hours, and then our bus was late. Two hours on the bus later, we hop on the ferry for the 45 minute trip to the island, where a friend was waiting to pick us up, thank God! It was freezing cold (several degrees below freezing) and Boston had lots of snow, but none on Martha's Vineyard, thank goodness. We arrived on the island at 1900 (7 o'clock in the evening) after having been up since what would have been 1 in the morning to our American friends. Argh!

The next day was spent trying to get the boat warmed up, as we hadn't left any heating on over the month, which turned out to be a bad idea, since some of our water pipes that we had forgotten to drain burst, and now we have no running water and no hot water heater. Other than that, things are great! Oh, it rained today and blew hard, so it held the high water up, raising the floating dock above the level of the land it was attached to, so the ramp was waving around in the air, and we couldn't get ashore. Fun was had by all! *g*

Now I'm ashore picking reading material for the next few days, in case we're stuck again (although the forecast is good).

Oh good god, your day sucked on so many levels. At least all your travelling is over. I can't remember if I told you or not, but IBM invited me back down. So I'm going down on Sunday. There exists not one B&B in a 10 mile radius of where I need to be at 815am on Monday morning. I booked my train tickets (which was a whole trauma in and of itself - Mum and Sheena are inept) and had to pay £5 for recorded delivery so I would get them on time. I get them this morning, only to discover that not one sigle seat had been reserved on the whole journey. Two points to consider - I'm travelling on a Sunday, along with 90% of the rest of the poopulation and two one of these journeys is a bloody sleeper train! They didn't think that it might be a good idea to book me a berth on that?! Oh, and did I mention that because the day runs so late, the only way I can get back up is by sleeper train?

*deep breath* There are many things that suck about this trip. And that doesn't cover the 10 min Power Point Presenation I need to prepare - "What Does IT mean to You?" and (I'm paraphrasing) "Why should IBM hire you?". 10 frelling minutes, how the hell am I supposed to do that. And I haven't even started yet. *another deep breath*

Ok, apparently I have issues...

Your day still sucks. *g* And I so don;t envy you you burst pipes and o hot water. *lots of sympathy*

It all sounds very dramatic, particularly the weather and the boat!

Ugh, your trip down sounds evil!!

And thanks, our pipes and everything is sorted now, so we have running water! And it snowed today! Not for very long, but it was pretty. Have started (non-paying) work on the dinghy today. Not too cold once you get into the swing of things. Also ordered Alias S4, so have that to look forward to after Christmas! *g*
